Medicine and Me: Unmasking Lipoedema — A women’s health condition hidden in plain sight
Lipoedema UK is delighted to have co-hosted an online webinar on Lipoedema with the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), which is now available to view online. The combination of patient voices sharing their personal experiences, plus talks by expert clinicians, surgeons and a GP, make this webinar essential viewing for healthcare professionals, patients and everyone who wishes to better understand the condition.
First aired in September 2025, the webinar is divided into three parts and runs for approximately three-and-a-half hours. It covers the foundations of diagnosis and management of the condition; the challenges in primary care, including emerging anecdotal evidence on GLP-1, and the role of nutrition; and liposuction for Lipoedema. Among the international specialist contributors were Professor Kristiana Gordon, Consultant and Professor in Lymphovascular Medicine and Lipoedema; and Professor Dr Manuel E Cornely, Scientific Director, LY.SEARCH, who gave updates on the LIPLEG study and the German federal committee ruling on funding for liposuction – and how this may impact the UK and NICE’s upcoming review.

A survey carried out after the webinar revealed that attendees found it ‘insightful’ and ‘well put together’. One respondent said, ‘I felt a lot more informed after the session and went to see my doctor… something I’ve avoided for over 20 years in relation to my arms and legs. I feel quite empowered. Scared and lots of emotions but more informed and empowered.’
Healthcare professionals, too, rated it highly – one said, ‘I would definitely recommend this to my colleagues as a great learning curve regarding current treatments pathways and research for lipoedema, to help inform and support these patients.’
